Tessa Reinke, MD

Dr. Byron Haney is a board-certified Family Medicine physician with over three decades of experience providing full-spectrum primary care to patients of all ages. He studied biochemistry at University of California, Davis, received his Doctor of Medicine from Indiana University School of Medicine and then completed his Family Medicine Residency in Modesto, California.

Throughout his career, Dr. Haney combined clinical practice with leadership and an emphasis on excellent patient care. In 1990, he started Family Health Care of Ellensburg and, over the course of three decades, grew one of the most successful independent primary care practices in Washington State. In addition to his thriving outpatient practice, Dr. Haney continued to deliver babies and round on the inpatient ward at Kittitas Valley Hospital, where he also served as Chief of Staff, Family Medicine Department Chair, and as a member of the Executive Committee. He also taught medical students as an Associate Professor of Medicine at Pacific Northwest University and advanced medical knowledge as a principal investigator in multiple clinical trials.

Long interested in innovative care models, improving quality of care, and dissatisfied with what he terms “rapid substandard healthcare”, Dr. Haney found his passion in Direct Primary Care, a grassroots movement to return the physician-patient relationship to the center of healthcare. In 2019, Dr. Haney successfully converted his outpatient practice into CompassDirect Healthcare, a direct primary care practice. Over the next few years, he was able to recapture the joy of truly patient-centered care. In 2023, he attempted to retire from clinical practice, but quickly found himself back in the Direct Primary Care setting, first at Cornerstone DPC and now at Polaris Medical in Sandpoint, Idaho.

Dr. Haney is deeply committed to patient-centered, evidence-based care that emphasizes prevention, wellness, and the patient-physician partnership. He has a special interest in shared medical appointments and collaborative models that enhance patient experience and outcomes. At Polaris Medical, he continues to be an evangelist for Direct Primary Care and focus on accessibility in healthcare and long-term wellness for families. Outside of medicine, he enjoys spending time with family and his church community.
